Physics and Metaphysics for Kids Program
Physics Objective:
The learning program we have developed teaches children how different concepts in science fit together, our primary objective, specifically, learning the smallest observable parts of the universe, all the way to the largest observable parts of the universe, and how they fit together, in an easy to understand order, to help students build a science-based vocabulary and information tree they can add to for the rest of their lives.
Metaphysics Objective:
Our second objective is to be able to teach kids science, regardless of the world view they have been taught, by focusing on the similarities and not the differences between the world views of the world, in such a manner that respects and conforms to all major world views, religious, spiritual, or not.
Six Week Overview
In week 1, we issue each student a set of numbered cue cards, each of which has a scientific concept, and a picture or image of that concept. For example, the numbered cue card for an atom would have a picture or drawing of an atom, to help students visualize the concepts. The order of the numbered cards helps the kids learn the order of scientific concepts being taught to them, from the smallest concepts, like energy, to the largest concepts, like the observable universe.
In weeks 2-6, the children break into smaller groups, where each child practices reading their cue cards in order to their group. Then after each group of students has recited their cue cards in a smaller group, each student is provided the opportunity to recite their cue cards in a presentation to the whole class, by standing up in front of the whole class, helping them to not only practice the order of how scientific concepts fit together, but helping them with their public speaking in different sized groups, which will collectively boost their confidence and scientific knowledge, the more and more they practice.
Students are asked to practice their cue cards with their parents on the way to school, every day if they can, reciting to their parents on the way to school. This way parents will learn about "everything" too!
In week 6, each student receives a certificate of completion after their last recital of "everything", with or without cue cards, based on their comfort level with the materials they are being exposed to.
Though students may not be able to memorize "everything" the first time around, the point is that they will engage in weekly, if not daily exercises that repeatedly expose them to scientific concepts in an easy to understand order they can follow and learn at their own pace. Then they have the option to continue learning and reciting with their parents, or to enroll in the class again.
Think of this like ballet or playing soccer. You can show kids a few moves, but it will take practice for them to first remember and then perfect the moves. Similarly, it will take some time for kids to learn all of the concepts, and then learn the order in which to present them, and then learn how to do this from memory.
To help diverse learners learn, we have made some videos to help visual and/or audio learners learn more faster, which simultaneously serves as a proof of concept, presented by a 7 year old and 9 year old, respectively.
